My Apologies
I’m sorry that I’m straight;
I’m sorry that who my genes say I should fancy
Makes you so irate.
I’m sorry that I’m white;
I’m sorry that my lack of melanin
Angers you such a fright.
I’m sorry that I’m male;
I’m sorry the shape of my chromosomes
Makes your inner peace fail.
I’m sorry my eyes are blue;
I’m sorry that you have a problem
With a tiny muscle’s hue.
I’m sorry my voice is deep;
I’m sorry that voice box as a teen
Seemed to southward creep.
I’m sorry that I’m loud;
I’m sorry that my tinnitus interferes
With hearing over a crowd.
I’m sorry that I’m fast;
I’m sorry that each thought I have
Is connected to the last.
I’m sorry that I’m poor;
I’m sorry that my parents tried
But could not afford more.
Im sorry that I’m me;
I’m sorry that the things I DIDN’T choose
Make you miss my Humanity.
